Wear & tear materials

What exactly is wear?

Wear is the increasing wear and tear of components or impairment of their functionality.

The surface of the counter body is gradually eroded by mostly intensive mechanical (grinding, rolling, hitting, scratching) as well as chemical and thermal stress. This loss of material / mass impacts the geometry of the components chainging and impairing their function. This damages components, which can lead to machine failures. Wear reduction is an important condition for increasing the service life of such systems and save on costs and raw materials.

A distinction is made between ordinary and extraordinary wear. While the ordinary, in principle foreseeable and unavoidable wear, results from repeated and permanent stress, the extraordinary wear occurs more or less by accident (overloading or incorrect operation of machines). This undesirable change in the surface often occurs, for example, on ball bearing slewing rings, but also on product-contacting parts such as mixing tools. These components are often easy to replace and are also grouped under the term "wear parts".

Wear materials

In order to counteract the material erosion on mixer tools or other highly stressed surfaces of machines or system components, we provide these components with a suitable wear protection.

Successfully used wear materials:

  • Stainless steel
  • Special tungsten carbide
  • Chilled cast iron
  • Aluminium oxide
  • Silicon carbide
  • Polycrystalline diamond
  • Hardox®, XAR®
  • Polyurethane
  • Composite armour
  • Tungsten carbide

The processing methods used by our specialists include the following

  • Armouring
  • Soldering
  • Welding
  • Adhesion
  • Casting
  • Injecting

Thanks to these wear materials and the associated manufacturing processes, we can define an optimal, cost-effective and product-tailored wear protection and supply our customers in a wide variety of industries.
